In the spirt of the “Back to Business” theme the Get Connected team wants to be executive producers of your next short and we are looking for the BEST production plan! Alongside Indie Source magazine we have $1500 dollars ready to award, Wednesday night Feb, 22nd. Ideally your short will be ready to produce once the funds are in place and we can watch as the production unfolds and prepare for the screening! In addition we can serve as mentors along the way and help in any way you would like us to.

We are looking for a PRODUCTION PLAN that will be emailed to us with the link provided. Once we receive the email we will send it to a panel of judges. The night of Get Connected we ask that you bring a few copies of your plan for display at the event at the table provided.

In your plan, please tell us how you are going to produce your short, here are things we are looking for (in no particular order):

• Length – Ideally we are looking for projects to be 10-15 minutes long
• Treatment/ Synopsis – What is the idea of your project?
• Locations – What are your plans for securing the locations?
• Casting – What are your plans for casting/ auditioning?
• Crew – Who do you want or plan be on your production team?
• Eyeballs – How do you plan to promote and market the project?
• Funds – How would you plan to use the funding?
• Community – how might your project engage the local community?
• The script (Optional – your script does not have to be completed)

* If you have never produced a production plan before google the term “Film Investor Package” or “Film Production Plan”.

What we don’t want:

• A project that has locations that are impossible to get
• A project that still needs more funds to be raised
• A project that will shoot next year
• Mean people who think they are better then everyone else

The cash prize will be awarded the night of the event, Wednesday night, February the 22nd. All submissions must be turned in by 5pm Friday the 17th. The idea is that you will use the money right away and go into production so we can keep an eye on the project and screen it at Get Connected.

Email: 1000submissions@gmail.com

* Our judges are made up of diverse business leaders who will be judging on the quality of your plan, and will judge it like they would a business plan. They will be looking for how prepared you are, how executable is your vision, how you best plan to use the funds and also how you plan market and distribute your project.

* The Get Connected team will be given “Executive Producer” credit and listed as such: Autumn Bailey-Esse Bailey Ford, Brent Brooks, and Cynthia Collins.

* Try and send in your plan for your short film in a .pdf format.

* The short film need to shot in Georgia and preferably use local cast and crew.

* We can’t think of anything else, but when we do we will post here.

Welcome to the “Meet the Director” series of interviews featuring local filmmakers that are screening their works at “Get Connected“. “The Desperate HouseHusbands of Atlanta” will be screening at the January, 2012 event. The mission of Get Connected is to build an industry family, help people gain employment, meet and network with great people, all while having a great time!

.

Are you looking forward the “The Desperate HouseHusbands” screening at “Get Connected”?

.

Falling Tree Films is really looking forward to this screening! This was a true collaborative effort on the part of all the “Trees” in our “Core”: Kelly Jawaska Napper, Quintero “Q” Davis, Patricia Roberts, Chris Heydari, Nick DeMao and Heather Place. We’ve been coming to the Get Connected events from the beginning and have enjoyed the opportunity to interact with our peers in the industry!

.

Can you tell us your past experience in the industry?

.

We all come to the business from different backgrounds. Pat Roberts and Heather Place each

have about 20 years in the film industry apiece–Pat working mostly as an assistant director and director and Heather as an actress and casting director. Q’s background is as a music producer and graphic designer. Kelly is a published novelist and an editor. Nick is a writer/director and Chris is a writer/ actor. We all draw on each other’s strengths and do the jobs that we are most suited to do!

.

So… What is your film about?

.

We are premiering the 1st episode of our web series: ”Desperate Househusbands of Atlanta”! This is the 4th project we’ve done as a group. The first (3) were short films: ”Trapped”, “Dogs of War” and “Happy New Year”, which we screened at a previous Get Connected. ”Desperate Househusbands” started off as something fun to do in between projects and it ended-up having a life of it’s own! It is a spoof of both “Desperate Housewives” and “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”, only in our series, it is the men who are desperate! The quick summary: four unsuspecting husbands are forced to adapt to a new lifestyle once their wives begin secretly taking a woman’s empowerment course.

.

How did you go about making the movie?

.

We actually came up with the idea while we were casting our action film, “Dogs of War”. In between auditions, we started tossing around ideas for our first comedy and this is what we came up with! We really pulled from people we had worked with on our first (3) projects and also pulled in some new cast and crew members. We shot on location all around Atlanta–in fact, Atlanta is almost a character in the series!

.

Tell us about your cast and crew!

.

We have a wonderful cast and crew! The first episode features: Jared Davis, Bethany Tiller, Tabitha Kilgore,

Debra Crittenden, Kelita Samone, Tracie Turner Jackson and Lea Garvey. All of the “Core Trees” also appear

in the episode! The Core also did production work on the episode with the help of Erin Dante Hinkle and Chris

Wright.

What do you think audiences will enjoy about your film?

.

We hope audiences will laugh out loud during the episode. We also chose to use a laugh track, as an homage to the old sit-coms of the 70′s and 80′s. The show is absurd and a bit over the top, but it’s all in good fun!

.

Any war stores from the set?

.

We filmed at both Heather’s clubhouse in her neighborhood and at Kelly’s apartment complex–it was

kind of funny to see people’s reactions to Pat’s wardrobe as “Elvira” and people coming to the pool and

listening to Tabitha’s monologue! We also had so much fun shooting it and “fleshing out” these characters–lots of laughter on the set!

.

Any tips you can share with others about the production process

.

As far as production tips, it’s important to delegate the jobs to the people who really know what they are doing and to function as a team at all times. It is possible to have fun and get the job done!
